Swine Flu Information

Severe respiratory illness cases have been reported in some cities in Mexico.  In addition, the United States has reported cases of swine flue in California and Texas. It is not clear whether the cases in Mexico and the United States are related. Currently, there are no cases reported in Canada. However, a few poeple who visited Mexico within the last two weeks are under investigation.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has learned of two cases of human swine flu in California. No cases or clusters of human swine flu have been reported in Canada.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has been alerted to clusters of severe respiratory illnesses in some cities in Mexico. While Mexico has been able to confirm that some of this illness was caused by influenza A and B, they have requested help from Canada to conduct further laboratory testing.

On Wednesday, April 22, Mexican authorities held a news release to share more information about the situation. Since March 18,2009, there are a total of 137 cases of severe respiratory illness (SRI) and 20 deaths.
